Who I Am…

I attended the University of Southern California where I majored in Non-Governmental Organizations and Social Change before pursuing a dual credential in both Special Education and Elementary Ed. After a year of student teaching, I was offered a position as the Art Teacher at that school and paused on my program in order to accept that. I fell in love with teaching all different grade levels and creating my very own year-long Art Curriculum from scratch. After, I was offered a position at 3 Title I schools in Escondido where I helped the district launch their brand new Enrichment Wheel Art Programming and taught over 1,600 kids.

That same year I completed my second credential in K-12 Art before accepting a position to teach in the school district I grew up in. Throughout the course of my career I’ve already taught over 2,500 students in grades TK through 6th grade and had the opportunity to help build three different art programs and curriculum which will hopefully continue to provide opportunities for students to engage with and create hundreds of pieces of art.

While I absolutely love teaching, my favorite part is the creation of Art Curriculum. Having the chance to bring together Art History knowledge and design and adapt projects for students who are visually impaired, in need of Social and Emotional Learning through art, and collaborate with other content area teachers like STEM, Drama, and Dance to create interdisciplinary lessons has been a wonderful experience.
